Photo Route Planner: how it works
The Photo Route Planner lets you map out a photography route before heading out. You add stops, note focal lengths and golden hour windows, and see nearby viewpoints or cafes at a glance. Use it whenever you are scouting a new area or planning a full-day shoot without wanting to figure things out on the spot.
Building a photo route that works with the light
For each stop you can log the focal length you plan to use and what kind of light you are counting on. The tool shows golden hour and blue hour times for your planned date, so you can sequence stops around the available light rather than guessing.
Premium users can save routes and revisit them later. That is useful when you return to the same area in a different season or want to compare a winter and summer version of the same route.
From planning to shooting: how to get the most out of it
Fill in the route the evening before. Add viewpoints, estimate travel time between stops, and write a short note per stop about what you want to shoot. When you are standing in the field with the light changing fast, having that framework in place means you can focus on shooting instead of logistics.
If you discover strong new locations along the way, the Location Log is the right place to store them separately, so your route stays clean and your location database grows on its own.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use the route planner while I am out shooting, or is it only for preparation?
You can use it in the field via your phone. It is built mainly as a planning tool though, not a turn-by-turn navigation app, so treat it as your reference rather than your guide.
How detailed should each stop be when planning a photo route?
As detailed as you need. At minimum: a map pin and the time window you are aiming for. Adding a focal length note and a short description of the shot helps when you arrive and conditions are different from what you expected.
Does the golden hour time shown in the planner update based on the date I pick?
Yes. The tool calculates sunrise, sunset, golden hour and blue hour for the specific date and location you set, so the times you see are accurate for your planned shoot day.
