Parabolic umbrella

Parabolische paraplu · Light

A deep umbrella with a parabolic shape that gives more direction and contrast than a regular umbrella.

A cheaper alternative to a parabolic softbox. The deep shape reflects light into a more directional beam, with more fall-off toward the edges than a regular umbrella. Placing the flash closer to the base gives more focused light, further away gives softer and broader coverage. Quick to fold, but the deep shape catches a lot of wind on location.
