The focus distance at which everything from half that distance to infinity is sharp.
Ideal for street photography: focus at the hyperfocal distance and everything within the typical shooting range is sharp - no refocusing needed. The distance depends on focal length, aperture and sensor. At 28mm and f/8 on full frame it's about 3 metres.
