Converting a colour photo to black and white, translating colours into grey values.
Simply desaturating gives a poor black-and-white conversion. In Lightroom use the B&W Mix to make individual colours lighter or darker. Red lighter = rosy cheeks disappear. Red darker = dramatic sky at a blue-red sunset. If you want a black-and-white look as a starting point, there are ready-made B&W presets on fotografie-presets.nl.
