Trimming a photo to improve the composition or achieve a specific aspect ratio.
Cropping fixes compositional mistakes but can also be used creatively: a 16:9 panoramic crop, or a square for Instagram. Every crop reduces pixel count. Use it sparingly: an excessively cropped photo loses sharpness when printed. Learn to plan composition in the field to minimise cropping.
