Through The Lens: the camera measures flash output through the lens and adjusts power automatically.
TTL is useful for moving situations or when distance keeps changing - the camera compensates automatically. Manual flash gives more control and consistency, ideal for studio work. TTL can get confused by complex scenes (white subject, dark background).
