Selective colour

Selectieve kleur · Nabewerking

A technique where one colour in the photo is adjusted or made to stand out while the rest is black and white.

The most well-known example is a black-and-white photo with a red rose or a yellow raincoat. The effect can feel kitsch if used without taste, but used creatively it draws attention to a specific element. In Photoshop achieved via a black-and-white adjustment layer with a mask.
