Noise reduction

Ruisreductie · Technique

A process in-camera or in software that reduces image noise, sometimes at the cost of sharpness or fine detail.

In-camera JPEG processing applies noise reduction automatically. In RAW software (Lightroom, Capture One) you have more control: luminance and colour noise are adjustable independently. Too much noise reduction gives a plastic, waxy appearance. AI noise reduction (Lightroom Denoise, DxO PureRAW) preserves detail better than classical methods.
