Pushing and pulling film

Film pushen en pullen · Analoog

Deliberately exposing at a higher or lower ISO than the film speed, followed by adjusted development.

Pushing: expose Ilford HP5 (ISO 400) at ISO 1600 or 3200 and give the developer more time. Result: more grain, higher contrast. Ideal in low light. Pulling: expose at a lower ISO (e.g. ISO 200 for HP5) and develop for less time. Result: finer grain, lower contrast. Push processing is the analogue way to shoot in low light without reaching for higher-speed film.
