An umbrella that reflects light (silver/gold) or transmits it (translucent white) for a large, soft light surface.
The umbrella is quick to set up and provides a large, soft light source. Shoot-through umbrellas place light that shines through the fabric, similar to a softbox. Reflective umbrellas (silver or gold) give slightly harder light but are cheaper and more compact. Downside: harder to control than a softbox.
