Rule of odds

Oneven-getalregel · Composition

A composition principle where an odd number of elements (3, 5, 7) feels more natural and balanced than an even number.

Three flowers look more balanced than two or four. Two elements create tension or symmetry; three allow more compositional freedom and are easier on the eye. The rule applies most when elements are of similar size. Check whether images with two equal elements can be strengthened by adding a third.
