Metal reflector dish

Metalen reflector · Light

The standard metal dish on a studio flash that produces hard, directional light with high efficiency.

The metal reflector is typically the dish supplied with a studio flash. It throws light in a wide cone with little power loss. The result is hard, contrasty light with sharp shadows - the character a softbox removes. In practice it is often used as a background or hair light, or as a main light for an editorial look. Combined with a grid or barn doors it gains the precise control the bare reflector lacks.
