The sensitivity of your sensor to light.
A low ISO (100-200) gives a clean image but needs plenty of light. A high ISO (3200-6400 or more) works in the dark but introduces noise - grainy speckles in the image. Modern cameras handle high ISO much better, but it remains a trade-off: noise or motion blur.
