An artificial light source that emits a short, powerful burst of light.

An on-camera speedlight gives quick, portable light. Off-camera flash (with triggers) gives more control over direction and mood. The guide number (GN) determines the range. Flash sync speed: the maximum shutter speed at which the sensor is fully exposed (usually 1/200 or 1/250 sec).
