With a film scanner you bring analogue images into the digital world. Quality differences are significant: cheap flatbed scans produce lower resolution than a dedicated film scanner like the Epson V800 or Nikon Coolscan. Alternative: "camera scanning" using a digital camera with a macro lens and light table.
