Bounce flash / Bounce light

A flash technique where you aim the flash at a ceiling or wall so the light bounces back indirectly and softly.
Bouncing makes a small flash much softer: the surface you bounce off becomes the effective light source, which is much larger. A white ceiling works best. Note: a coloured ceiling adds a colour cast. Doesn't work outdoors without a nearby ceiling or wall.
